Author Johannes Eva (viola)I am a classical musician (violist) with 20 years of professional experience in orchestra and chamber music. For many years, I have been advising colleagues, students, and fellow musicians in the choice of their tablet.

Along with the many positives of using tablets, I’ve also seen the negatives: tablets crashing just before going on stage, batteries that don’t hold up during long rehearsal days, and missing page turner pedals in concert.

Overview

The Teclast T70 is a low-cost 14-inch Android tablet with 4G for videos, reading and web browsing, presented in November 2024. Few independent reviews exist. Notebookcheck rated it 73 % (“satisfactory”) and saw hardly any rival with such a large screen under €300. smartzone praised the solid metal body but asked whether the big screen is worth the extra size and weight.

The screen is about 9 % larger than the screen of the 13-inch iPad Pro. Its 16:10 format is a wide format made for videos. With 1920 × 1200 pixels (162 ppi), it is not very sharp for its size. Notebookcheck measured 400 nits, enough indoors, and no PWM flicker; outdoors, the glossy screen needs shade.

The MediaTek Helio G99 is an entry-level chip. smartzone found it fine for everyday use; Notebookcheck noted occasional stutters, a touchscreen that sometimes needed several taps and heavy stuttering on YouTube above 1080p. There are 8 GB of RAM, 256 GB of storage and a microSD slot. Android 14 comes with Google services and no extra apps, and Widevine L1 allows HD on Netflix and Prime Video. Teclast has no update policy: in June 2025, Notebookcheck’s unit still had August 2024 security patches.

Teclast sells no keyboard or pen made for the T70. The 10,000 mAh battery lasted 15.7 hours in Notebookcheck’s Wi-Fi test; smartzone measured almost 7 hours in the more demanding PCMark test. A full charge takes 3 to 4 hours. At 960 g, the tablet is heavy. It has four speakers, a headphone jack, one USB-C port (USB 2.0), dual-SIM 4G and GPS; smartzone found the 4G and GPS reception mediocre, and Notebookcheck measured slow Wi-Fi.

The T70 cost $350 on Teclast’s US store (December 2024), €270 in Europe and 1,399 yuan in China. Since July 2026, Teclast lists a revised T70 with a 2240 × 1400 screen, a Helio G100, Android 15 and 875 g.

Performance

Teclast T70: Performance

The Teclast T70 is powered by the relatively old MediaTek Helio G99 processor, released in 2022 and built on a 6 nm process. It is fine for streaming, web browsing, documents and casual games, but it is not made for demanding games, video editing or heavy multitasking. The same chip is used in 8 other tablets of our database, including the Meswao MES-B3 (Pro) and the TCL NxtPaper 14. Compared with other large tablets:

  • The Apple M5 in the Apple iPad Pro 13″ (M5) is about 8 times faster.
  • The Unisoc T7300 in the Alldocube iPlay 70 Max Pro is about 20 % faster.
  • The Teclast T70 is about 30 % faster than the Callsky Ctab 14 and its Unisoc T616.

Brightness

Teclast T70: Maximum brightness

The screen of the Teclast T70 reaches 400 nits measured by Notebookcheck, which is enough indoors, but not for outdoor use in the summer (600 nits is the minimum).
