Author Johannes Eva (viola)I am a classical musician (violist) with 20 years of professional experience in orchestra and chamber music. For many years, I have been advising colleagues, students, and fellow musicians in the choice of their tablet.

Along with the many positives of using tablets, I’ve also seen the negatives: tablets crashing just before going on stage, batteries that don’t hold up during long rehearsal days, and missing page turner pedals in concert.

Overview

The Iconia X14 is a 14-inch Android tablet with an OLED screen and a built-in kickstand for videos, web browsing and video calls. It went on sale in November 2025. No independent review has been published yet (October 2026); launch articles welcomed an OLED screen at this price but criticized the chip (9to5Google, Notebookcheck). Its twin, the Iconia A14, has an IPS LCD screen instead and costs $50 less.

The 16:10 screen, a wide format made for videos, has an area about 9 % larger than that of the 13-inch iPad Pro. With 1920 × 1200 pixels (162 ppi) it is not very sharp at this size. The glossy OLED panel shows deep blacks. Acer gives no brightness figure, and no one has measured it.

The Allwinner A733 is an entry-level chip made on an old 12 nm process; Notebookcheck says it is somewhat slower than the MediaTek Helio G99 of many low-cost tablets. It should be enough for videos and browsing, but no review has tested games. There are 6 or 8 GB of RAM, 128 or 256 GB of storage and a microSD slot (up to 1 TB). The tablet runs Android 15 with Google Play; Acer has published no update policy and does not say whether Netflix plays in HD (Widevine L1).

There is no pogo connector, official keyboard or stylus, but Bluetooth keyboards work. Acer promises up to 10 hours of video from the 8,000 mAh battery; 9to5Google notes that the smaller Iconia X12, with a more efficient chip, promises 16 hours. It weighs 910 g, is 8 mm thick and has four speakers, one USB-C 2.0 port and a headphone jack.

Launch prices were $350, €310 and AUD 530; the A14 cost $300, €260 and AUD 460 (Acer). In September 2026, Acer announced successors for the end of 2026 with an optional keyboard and stylus, but with the older MediaTek Helio G80 chip (Notebookcheck).

Pros

  • 14-inch OLED screen at a low price ($350 at launch)
  • Built-in kickstand
  • microSD slot (up to 1 TB)
  • Four speakers and a headphone jack
  • Cheaper IPS version (Iconia A14, $300)

Cons

  • Slow entry-level chip (Allwinner A733, 12 nm)
  • Low resolution for 14 inches (162 ppi)
  • Modest battery claim (10 h of video)
  • No keyboard or stylus support
  • Heavy (910 g)
  • No update policy published

Performance

Acer Iconia X14 / A14: Performance

The Acer Iconia X14 / A14 is powered by the Allwinner A733 processor, released in 2024 and built on a 12 nm process. It is an entry-level chip: fine for videos, web browsing, reading and taking notes, but apps open slowly and games have to run at low settings. The same chip is used in the Acer Iconia A16. Compared with other large tablets:

  • The Apple M5 in the Apple iPad Pro 13″ (M5) is about 10 times faster.
  • The MediaTek Helio G100 in the Doogee Tab E3 Max is about 20 % faster.
