Overview

The Lenovo ThinkBook Plus Gen 5 Hybrid is a Windows 11 laptop whose 14-inch screen detaches as an Android tablet with its own chip, memory and battery. It went on sale in August 2024 in the US, the UK and Europe. Reviewers liked the idea, the solid build and the quick switch between Windows and Android (XDA: 8/10), but found it heavy, awkward to detach and expensive (Android Authority: 7/10; PCWorld: 3.5/5).

The OLED screen is about 9 % larger than the screen of the 13-inch iPad Pro. Its 16:10 format is wide, made for videos; as a hand-held tablet, reviewers found it unwieldy. It is sharp (2880 × 1800, 243 ppi) but only 60 Hz, under glossy anti-reflective glass. Lenovo rates it at 350 nits; Notebookcheck measured 390 nits, enough in the shade but not in direct sun, and PWM flicker at 242 Hz.

The tablet uses a Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1, a 2022 flagship chip that runs Android smoothly, with 12 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage (no microSD). It shipped with Android 13 and Google Play and later received Android 14; Lenovo publishes no update policy. The keyboard base is a full PC (Core Ultra 7 155H, 32 GB of RAM, 1 TB SSD, two Thunderbolt 4 ports). A key switches systems in about two seconds, and a shared folder syncs files (Thurrott).

The Tab Pen Plus and an easel are included. The tablet weighs 785 g and has four speakers, but only one USB 2.0 port and no headphone jack; the complete laptop weighs 1.75 kg (Lenovo). No review measured the tablet’s own battery life (Lenovo: up to 10.3 hours of video); in Windows, Notebookcheck measured 5 hours of Wi-Fi browsing. Detaching takes a firm pull, and reattaching can need several tries (Android Central).

The single configuration was listed at $3,518 in the US but often sold for about $2,040, or £1,399.99 in the UK (TechRadar).

Performance

Lenovo ThinkBook Plus G5: Performance

The Lenovo ThinkBook Plus Gen 5 Hybrid is powered by the relatively old Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 processor, released in 2022 and built on a 4 nm process. It is a mid-range chip, fast enough for multitasking, drawing apps and most games; only the most demanding games and video editing will push it to its limits. Compared with other large tablets:

  • The Apple M5 in the Apple iPad Pro 13″ (M5) is about 3 times faster.
  • The MediaTek Dimensity 9400+ in the Samsung Galaxy Tab S11 Ultra is about 80 % faster.
  • The Lenovo ThinkBook Plus Gen 5 Hybrid is about 2.5 times faster than the Meswao MES-B3 (Pro) and its MediaTek Helio G99.

Brightness

Lenovo ThinkBook Plus G5: Maximum brightness

The screen of the Lenovo ThinkBook Plus Gen 5 Hybrid reaches 350 nits according to Lenovo, which is enough indoors, but not for outdoor use in the summer (600 nits is the minimum). Notebookcheck measured 390 nits.
