I am a classical musician (violist) with 20 years of professional experience in orchestra and chamber music. For many years, I have been advising colleagues, students, and fellow musicians in the choice of their tablet.
Along with the many positives of using tablets, I’ve also seen the negatives: tablets crashing just before going on stage, batteries that don’t hold up during long rehearsal days, and missing page turner pedals in concert.
Overview
The Teclast T65 Max is a low-cost 13-inch Android tablet with 4G, made for videos, web browsing and reading. The “T65 Max 2025” keeps the chip, screen and battery of the 2024 original and moves to Android 15. All reviews tested the 2024 version: Notebookcheck rated it 81% (good) and calls it a bargain for videos and the web; smartzone and garumax praise the metal body and the battery but criticize the screen.
The 12.95-inch IPS screen has a 16:10 aspect ratio, a wide format made for videos; its area is about 7% smaller than that of the 13-inch iPad Pro. With 1920 × 1200 pixels (175 ppi), text looks soft (smartzone, garumax). Notebookcheck measured only about 300 nits on the glossy screen, too dim outdoors; it found no PWM flicker. Teclast’s spec page lists 60 Hz, although the 2025 version was announced with 90 Hz (Notebookcheck).
The MediaTek Helio G99 is an entry-level chip: fine for streaming, browsing and office apps, weak in heavy 3D games (garumax). It has 8 GB of RAM (the “20 GB” in ads includes virtual memory), 256 GB of storage and a microSD slot. Android comes without extra apps, with Google services and Widevine L1 for HD on Netflix. Teclast has no update policy, and Notebookcheck’s May 2024 unit still had the February 2024 security patch.
For the 2025 version, Teclast lists its T-Pen (USI 2.0, sold separately) and a fingerprint sensor; the reviewed 2024 units had face unlock only. No keyboard is made for it. Notebookcheck measured 11 hours 52 minutes of Wi-Fi browsing, smartzone 11 hours 27 minutes in PCMark; a full charge took 2.5 hours. The aluminum tablet weighs 740 g; its four speakers are fairly loud but light on bass. It has 4G with two SIM slots, GPS, a headphone jack and Wi-Fi 5.
In 2025 it cost €199.99 in Germany (tablethype) and ¥42,900 in Japan (Teclast Japan), mostly through online marketplaces (Teclast).
Pros
- Low price for a 13-inch tablet (about €200 in 2025)
- Long battery life (11 h 52 min of Wi-Fi browsing measured)
- Solid aluminum body
- 4G LTE with dual SIM, GPS and a headphone jack
- Widevine L1 for HD streaming, microSD slot
- Clean Android without extra apps
Cons
- Dim, glossy screen (about 300 nits measured)
- Soft Full HD picture for the size (175 ppi), 60 Hz
- Entry-level Helio G99, weak in 3D games
- No update policy, old security patches
- No keyboard made for it
Performance

The Teclast T65 Max is powered by the relatively old MediaTek Helio G99 processor, released in 2022 and built on a 6 nm process. It is fine for streaming, web browsing, documents and casual games, but it is not made for demanding games, video editing or heavy multitasking. The same chip is used in 8 other tablets of our database, including the Meswao MES-B3 (Pro) and the TCL NxtPaper 14. Compared with other large tablets:
- The Apple M5 in the Apple iPad Pro 13″ (M5) is about 8 times faster.
- The Unisoc T7300 in the Alldocube iPlay 70 Max Pro is about 20 % faster.
- The Teclast T65 Max is about 30 % faster than the Callsky Ctab 14 and its Unisoc T616.
Brightness

The screen of the Teclast T65 Max reaches 290 nits measured by Notebookcheck, which is dim: fine in a dark or dim room, but hard to read near a window and outdoors.
