I am a classical musician (violist) with 20 years of professional experience in orchestra and chamber music. For many years, I have been advising colleagues, students, and fellow musicians in the choice of their tablet.
Along with the many positives of using tablets, I’ve also seen the negatives: tablets crashing just before going on stage, batteries that don’t hold up during long rehearsal days, and missing page turner pedals in concert.
Overview
The Samsung Galaxy Tab S11 Ultra is Samsung’s 2025 flagship and the largest premium Android tablet, made for films, games, drawing and office work. Reviewers praise its screen, speed and battery life: Notebookcheck rated it 89%, GSMArena 4.6 out of 5 and Stuff 5 out of 5. Android Police (6.5 out of 10) found it too big and expensive.
The 14.6-inch screen has 18% more area than the 13-inch iPad Pro. Its 16:10 format is a wide format made for videos. The AMOLED panel is sharp (239 ppi) and runs at 120 Hz. Notebookcheck measured 965 nits (1,575 nits on small bright areas), GSMArena 1,058 nits with automatic brightness. An anti-reflective coating helps outdoors, but the screen stays glossy. GSMArena and Stuff dislike the camera notch.
The MediaTek Dimensity 9400+ is fast in games and multitasking, without overheating (GSMArena). It has 12 or 16 GB of RAM, 256 GB to 1 TB of storage and a microSD slot. The tablet runs Android 16 with One UI 8, Google Play and the DeX desktop mode, and supports Widevine L1 (HD on Netflix and Prime Video). Samsung promises up to seven Android upgrades and seven years of security updates. Android has fewer professional creative apps than the iPad (Expert Reviews, Stuff).
The S Pen is in the box, but it lost Bluetooth and its magnet is weak; keyboards cost extra. Expert Reviews measured 17 h 10 min of video, IT Pro 17 h 21 min. A full 45 W charge takes about 1.5 hours; no charger is included. It is 5.1 mm thin, weighs 692 g and resists water and dust (IP68). Its four speakers sound full (Tech Advisor, GSMArena). The USB-C port can drive a monitor; there is no headphone jack.
It launched in September 2025 at $1,199.99, €1,339 and £1,199 (12/256 GB, Wi-Fi). The Galaxy Tab S12 Ultra replaces it from October 7, 2026.

Performance

The Samsung Galaxy Tab S11 Ultra is powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 9400+ processor, released in 2025 and built on a 3 nm process. It is a fast chip: demanding games, large drawings and video editing run smoothly. Compared with other large tablets:
- The Apple M5 in the Apple iPad Pro 13″ (M5) is about 80 % faster.
