I am a classical musician (violist) with 20 years of professional experience in orchestra and chamber music. For many years, I have been advising colleagues, students, and fellow musicians in the choice of their tablet.
Along with the many positives of using tablets, I’ve also seen the negatives: tablets crashing just before going on stage, batteries that don’t hold up during long rehearsal days, and missing page turner pedals in concert.
Overview
The Samsung Galaxy Tab S10 Ultra is Samsung’s 2024 flagship: a 14.6-inch tablet for films, notes, drawing and office work. Reviewers call it the best Android tablet of its time: Notebookcheck rated it 87% and Stuff 5 out of 5. Android Police (7 out of 10) found it simply too big.
The 14.6-inch screen has 18% more area than the 13-inch iPad Pro. Its 16:10 format is a wide format made for videos. The AMOLED panel is sharp (239 ppi) and runs at 120 Hz. An anti-reflective coating clearly reduces reflections, but the glass stays glossy. Notebookcheck and IT Pro both measured 603 nits: less than the iPad Pro, and not enough for full sun. Notebookcheck also found flicker (PWM) at a low 120 Hz, which can bother sensitive eyes.
The MediaTek Dimensity 9300+ is fast, even under long load (Notebookcheck). It has 12 or 16 GB of RAM, 256 GB to 1 TB of storage and a microSD slot. It now runs Android 16 with One UI 8.5, Google Play and the DeX desktop mode, and supports Widevine L1 (HD on Netflix and Prime Video). Updates are promised until October 2031. Many Android apps are still stretched phone apps (Android Authority).
The S Pen is in the box; keyboard covers cost $200 to $350 extra. IT Pro measured 13 h 45 min of video, Expert Reviews 12 h 38 min. A full 45 W charge takes about two hours (Nextpit); no charger is included. It is 5.4 mm thin, weighs 718 g and is IP68 rated. Its four speakers sound good, and the USB-C port can drive a monitor; there is no headphone jack.
It launched in October 2024 at $1,199.99, €1,339 and £1,199 (12/256 GB, Wi-Fi) and now often sells for much less. The similar S9 Ultra (2023) and S8 Ultra (2022) use Snapdragon chips and get fewer years of updates; they are sold used or refurbished.
Pros
- Same pros as Galaxy Tab S11 Ultra, but also:
- More affordable
- Many used and refurbished buying options
- Security updates until October 2031
Cons
- Same cons as the S11 Ultra, but also:
- Released a while ago, in October 2024
Performance

The Samsung Galaxy Tab S10 Ultra is powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 9300+ processor, released in 2024 and built on a 4 nm process. It is a fast chip: demanding games, large drawings and video editing run smoothly. Compared with other large tablets:
- The Apple M5 in the Apple iPad Pro 13″ (M5) is about twice as fast.
- The MediaTek Dimensity 9400+ in the Samsung Galaxy Tab S11 Ultra is about 20 % faster.
- The Samsung Galaxy Tab S10 Ultra is about 4 times faster than the Meswao MES-B3 (Pro) and its MediaTek Helio G99.
Brightness

The screen of the Samsung Galaxy Tab S10 Ultra reaches 650 nits according to Samsung, which is bright: enough for bright rooms and for outdoor use in the shade, even in the summer. Notebookcheck measured 603 nits.
