I am a classical musician (violist) with 20 years of professional experience in orchestra and chamber music. For many years, I have been advising colleagues, students, and fellow musicians in the choice of their tablet.
Along with the many positives of using tablets, I’ve also seen the negatives: tablets crashing just before going on stage, batteries that don’t hold up during long rehearsal days, and missing page turner pedals in concert.
Overview
The 2025 Asus ROG Flow Z13 is a 13.4-inch Windows 11 gaming tablet with a detachable keyboard. It uses AMD’s Ryzen AI Max+ 395 (16 cores, Radeon 8060S graphics) or the cheaper Ryzen AI Max 390, with 32, 64 or 128 GB of shared memory. Reviewers agree that it is the most powerful Windows tablet: Notebookcheck (87 %) found its built-in graphics as fast as those of a mid-range gaming laptop. PCWorld still thinks a regular gaming laptop is the better choice for most gamers.
The screen has about the same area as the 13-inch iPad Pro, but in 16:10, a wide format made for videos and games. With 2560 × 1600 pixels (225 ppi) it is sharp, and 180 Hz makes motion smooth. Notebookcheck measured 518 nits, accurate colors and no PWM flicker. The glass is glossy with an anti-glare coating, so reflections stay limited. It is an IPS LCD: Clubic and Pocket-lint miss an OLED option at this price.
The memory is soldered; the 1 TB SSD (M.2 2230) can be replaced. The keyboard with touchpad is included, the kickstand opens to 170°, and a pen is supported but not included.
Laptop Mag measured 10 hours 14 minutes of web browsing at 150 nits, PCWorld 12.5 hours of video, but gaming on battery lasts only about 1.5 hours, and under load the tablet gets hot and loud (about 45 dB). It weighs 1.23 kg, 1.62 kg with the keyboard, and the 200 W power adapter adds 571 g (Notebookcheck). The two speakers are weak. Ports: two USB4 (40 Gbps, display output, charging), one USB-A, a microSD reader and a headphone jack.
Asus sells it from $2,099.99 in the US; at launch, the Ryzen AI Max+ 395 with 32 GB cost $2,299 in the US and €2,499 in Europe. There is no regular 2026 model, only a Kojima Productions edition with 128 GB.
