Overview
The Dell XPS 13 2-in-1 (9315) is a 13-inch Windows 11 tablet with a detachable keyboard, announced in June 2022 as a rival to the Surface Pro. Reviewers liked its thin, fanless body and its screen, but not its battery life: Notebookcheck gave it 90 % and PCMag 4 out of 5. It is now sold only refurbished or used.
Screen: sharp and bright, but only 60 Hz
The glossy screen has 2880 × 1920 pixels (266 ppi) in a 3:2 format, taller and closer to a sheet of paper, better for documents. With the same diagonal as the 13-inch iPad Pro, it is about 4 % smaller in area. Notebookcheck measured 486 nits and no PWM flicker; Windows Central found its colors weaker than on a Surface and its lowest brightness too high for dark rooms.
Silent, but short battery life
The 12th-generation Intel Core i5-1230U or i7-1250U needs no fan, so the tablet is silent (CNET). It handles office work and the web but slows down under long heavy loads. It has 8 or 16 GB of memory and a 512 GB or 1 TB SSD. Battery life is the main weak point: Notebookcheck measured almost 9 hours of Wi-Fi browsing, Laptop Mag 8 h 16 min, PCMag 7 hours of video and Windows Central about 4.5 hours in daily use.
Keyboard and ports: a folio instead of a kickstand
There is no built-in kickstand: the XPS Folio keyboard is also the stand and offers only three angles, criticized by Digital Trends, but it types well. In the US, the Folio and the XPS Stylus cost $100 each; UK models included both (TechRadar). The tablet weighs 736 g, or 1.3 kg with the Folio. It has only two Thunderbolt 4 ports and no headphone jack, but good 1080p front and 4K rear cameras. It started at $999 without keyboard and pen.
Pros
- Sharp, bright 3:2 screen (266 ppi, 486 nits measured)
- Fanless and silent
- Thin and light (7.4 mm, 736 g)
- Comfortable Folio keyboard with a large touchpad
- Good cameras (1080p front, 4K rear)
Cons
- Short battery life (4.5 to 9 hours in reviews)
- No built-in kickstand; Folio keyboard $100 extra in the US
- Only two USB-C ports, no headphone jack
- Only 60 Hz
- Slows down under long heavy loads
- Discontinued: refurbished or used only
Performance

The Dell XPS 13 2-in-1 (9315) is powered by the relatively old Intel Core i5-1230U processor, released in 2022 and built on a 10 nm process. It is a fast chip: demanding games, large drawings and video editing run smoothly. Compared with other large tablets:
- The Apple M5 in the Apple iPad Pro 13″ (M5) is about twice as fast.
- The MediaTek Dimensity 9400+ in the Samsung Galaxy Tab S11 Ultra is about 20 % faster.
- The Dell XPS 13 2-in-1 (9315) is about 3.5 times faster than the Meswao MES-B3 (Pro) and its MediaTek Helio G99.
Brightness

The screen of the Dell XPS 13 2-in-1 (9315) reaches 500 nits according to Dell, which is enough indoors, but not for outdoor use in the summer (600 nits is the minimum). Notebookcheck measured 486 nits.
Size compared with the iPad Pro and a sheet of paper
- Dell XPS 13 2-in-1 (9315)
10.8 × 7.2 in - iPad Pro 13″
10.4 × 7.8 in - Letter sheet
11.0 × 8.5 in
