I am a classical musician (violist) with 20 years of professional experience in orchestra and chamber music. For many years, I have been advising colleagues, students, and fellow musicians in the choice of their tablet.
Along with the many positives of using tablets, I’ve also seen the negatives: tablets crashing just before going on stage, batteries that don’t hold up during long rehearsal days, and missing page turner pedals in concert.
Overview
The Blackview Mega 8 is a low-cost 13-inch Android tablet with 4G LTE, released in spring 2025. It suits videos, web browsing, school work and light office tasks. heise calls it cheap but still good, Pocket Gamer gives it 4 out of 5, and Techlicious says the low price is its best point.
The IPS screen has a 16:10 aspect ratio, a wide format made for videos; its area is about 6 % smaller than that of the 13-inch iPad Pro. With 1920 × 1200 pixels (174 ppi), text is less sharp than on 2.5K screens. It runs at 90 Hz and is glossy. heise measured 485 nits and Stiftung Warentest about 490 nits: fine indoors, but too dim in direct sunlight according to heise and tikgadget.jp.
The Unisoc T620 is an older entry-level chip: smooth for browsing, streaming and office apps, but weak in heavy 3D games such as Genshin Impact (ITC.ua). It has 12 GB of RAM (the “36 GB” in ads includes virtual memory), 256 or 512 GB of storage and a microSD slot shared with the second SIM. Android 15 is close to stock Android, with Google services and Widevine L1 for HD on Netflix and Prime Video. Blackview gives no update period; Stiftung Warentest lists security updates until at least August 2030, but heise found updates sporadic.
A case, a screen protector and a passive stylus without pressure sensitivity are in the box; a keyboard is sold separately. heise measured 13 hours 15 minutes of battery life in PCMark at 200 nits, ITC.ua 16 hours. Charging at 18 W takes 2.5 to 3.25 hours. At 736 g, it is heavy for one hand. The four speakers are loud but have little bass; it has a headphone jack and one USB-C port (USB 2.0).
Prices have ranged from $199.99 (launch offer) to $349.99. In October 2026, Blackview’s US store listed it at $269.99 but sold out (Blackview).

Performance

The Blackview Mega 8 is powered by the Unisoc T620 processor, released in 2024 and built on a 12 nm process. It is an entry-level chip: fine for videos, web browsing, reading and taking notes, but apps open slowly and games have to run at low settings. The same chip is used in the Teclast T65 / T65 Plus and the Iris Ohyama LUCA Tablet 15.6. Compared with other large tablets:
- The Apple M5 in the Apple iPad Pro 13″ (M5) is about 10 times faster.
- The MediaTek Helio G100 in the Doogee Tab E3 Max is about 20 % faster.
Brightness

The screen of the Blackview Mega 8 reaches 420 nits according to Blackview, which is enough indoors, but not for outdoor use in the summer (600 nits is the minimum). heise measured 485 nits.
