Author Johannes Eva (viola)I am a classical musician (violist) with 20 years of professional experience in orchestra and chamber music. For many years, I have been advising colleagues, students, and fellow musicians in the choice of their tablet.

Along with the many positives of using tablets, I’ve also seen the negatives: tablets crashing just before going on stage, batteries that don’t hold up during long rehearsal days, and missing page turner pedals in concert.

Overview

The Lenovo Yoga Tab Plus is a 12.7-inch high-end Android tablet from January 2025, replaced by the Yoga Tab Plus Gen 2 in September 2026. Every reviewed unit came with a pen, a keyboard cover with touchpad and a magnetic stand. Reviewers call it a cheaper rival to the iPad Pro: Notebookcheck rated it 86%, Trusted Reviews and Tech Advisor 4.5 out of 5, Windows Central 3.5 out of 5 and Clubic 7 out of 10.

The screen is about 11% smaller than that of the 13-inch iPad Pro. Its 16:10 format is a wide format made for videos. It is a sharp LCD (273 ppi) at up to 144 Hz, not OLED, so blacks look greyish. Notebookcheck measured 726 nits and no flicker, and Les Numériques measured 885 nits. Despite Lenovo’s anti-reflection coating, Notebookcheck saw strong reflections outdoors.

The Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 with 16 GB of RAM is fast, also in demanding games. Storage is 256 or 512 GB, with no microSD slot. Google Play is included, Netflix plays in Full HD (Widevine L1, MyNextTablet), and a desktop mode starts when the keyboard is attached. Lenovo promises upgrades up to Android 17 and security updates until January 2029, which Les Numériques and Windows Central find short.

The Tab Pen Pro has haptic feedback. The six Harman Kardon speakers are loud; MyNextTablet ranks them among the best on tablets. Battery life depends on brightness: Notebookcheck measured 12 h 48 min of Wi-Fi browsing, but MyNextTablet got only 6 h 20 min of video at maximum brightness and Clubic about 9 hours of mixed use. The tablet weighs 640 g and has one USB-C port (5 Gbps) with video output and no headphone jack.

Lenovo’s expected US starting price was $699.99. Launch prices were £669.99 in the UK and €799 to €899 in Germany and France, usually with pen and keyboard. Some shops, such as LDLC in France, sell it without them.

Pros

  • Fast Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 with 16 GB of RAM
  • Bright, flicker-free 144 Hz screen (726 nits measured)
  • Six loud Harman Kardon speakers
  • Pen, keyboard with touchpad and stand usually in the box
  • Useful desktop mode with the keyboard

Cons

  • Updates end with Android 17 (security until January 2029)
  • LCD, not OLED: greyish blacks (1,320:1 contrast measured)
  • Short battery life at high brightness (6 h 20 min of video)
  • Reflective screen despite the anti-reflection coating
  • No microSD slot, no headphone jack

Performance

Lenovo Yoga Tab Plus: Performance

The Lenovo Yoga Tab Plus is powered by the relatively old Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor, released in 2023 and built on a 4 nm process. It is a fast chip: demanding games, large drawings and video editing run smoothly. The same chip is used in the Honor MagicPad3. Compared with other large tablets:

  • The Apple M5 in the Apple iPad Pro 13″ (M5) is about 2.5 times faster.
  • The MediaTek Dimensity 9400+ in the Samsung Galaxy Tab S11 Ultra is about 30 % faster.
  • The Lenovo Yoga Tab Plus is about 3.5 times faster than the Meswao MES-B3 (Pro) and its MediaTek Helio G99.

Brightness

Lenovo Yoga Tab Plus: Maximum brightness

The screen of the Lenovo Yoga Tab Plus reaches 650 nits according to Lenovo, which is bright: enough for bright rooms and for outdoor use in the shade, even in the summer. Notebookcheck measured 726 nits.
