I am a classical musician (violist) with 20 years of professional experience in orchestra and chamber music. For many years, I have been advising colleagues, students, and fellow musicians in the choice of their tablet.
Along with the many positives of using tablets, I’ve also seen the negatives: tablets crashing just before going on stage, batteries that don’t hold up during long rehearsal days, and missing page turner pedals in concert.
Overview
The Lenovo Idea Tab Pro is a mid-range 12.7-inch Android tablet for videos, notes and casual games, sold since early 2025 (in China, a similar Xiaoxin Pad Pro 12.7). It replaced the Tab P12 of 2023 (slower chip, 60 Hz screen) and was followed by the 13-inch Gen 2 in March 2026. Reviewers see it as good value: Notebookcheck rated it 82%, Android Police 8.5/10, and Android Authority gave it an Editor’s Choice award.
The 16:10 LCD, a wide format made for videos, is about 11 % smaller than the screen of the 13-inch iPad Pro. It is sharp (2944 × 1840 pixels, 273 ppi) and runs at 144 Hz, but Notebookcheck measured only 409 nits (and no PWM flicker). Several reviewers found it hard to read outdoors, and Android Police and Android Authority noted weak viewing angles. Notebookcheck’s unit was glossy; no review tested the “paper-like” anti-glare version that Lenovo also lists.
The MediaTek Dimensity 8300 keeps everyday apps smooth, but demanding 3D games such as Genshin Impact need low or medium settings (Android Police, Tech Advisor). It has 8 or 12 GB of RAM, 128 or 256 GB of storage, a microSD slot and Google Play; Netflix plays in full HD (MyNextTablet). Updates are short: the last upgrade is Android 16 (most US reviews) or Android 17 (Notebookcheck, Tech Advisor), with security patches until 2028.
The Tab Pen Plus came with every reviewed unit, but some versions ship without it; the keyboard cover with touchpad is optional. Notebookcheck measured 13 h 18 min of Wi-Fi browsing and Tech Advisor 10 h 4 min in PCMark; 45 W charging takes about two hours. All reviewers praised the four loud JBL speakers; several found the 620 g metal body heavy. It has a fingerprint reader and video out over USB-C, but no headphone jack.
Launch prices were $349.99 in the US (Lenovo), €379 in Germany (Notebookcheck) and £379.99 in the UK (Tech Advisor).
Pros
- Sharp 144 Hz screen (273 ppi)
- Loud quad JBL speakers
- Pen in the box of all reviewed units
- Long Wi-Fi battery life (13 h 18 min measured)
- Metal body, microSD slot, video out over USB-C
Cons
- Dim screen (409 nits measured)
- Short updates (last upgrade Android 16 or 17)
- Heavy for a tablet (620 g)
- Weak viewing angles
- Demanding 3D games only at lower settings
Performance

The Lenovo Idea Tab Pro is powered by the relatively old MediaTek Dimensity 8300 processor, released in 2023 and built on a 4 nm process. It is a mid-range chip, fast enough for multitasking, drawing apps and most games; only the most demanding games and video editing will push it to its limits. The same chip is used in the Acer Iconia Duo S14. Compared with other large tablets:
- The Apple M5 in the Apple iPad Pro 13″ (M5) is about 3.5 times faster.
- The MediaTek Dimensity 9400+ in the Samsung Galaxy Tab S11 Ultra is about 80 % faster.
- The Lenovo Idea Tab Pro is about 2.5 times faster than the Meswao MES-B3 (Pro) and its MediaTek Helio G99.
Brightness

The screen of the Lenovo Idea Tab Pro reaches 400 nits according to Lenovo, which is enough indoors, but not for outdoor use in the summer (600 nits is the minimum). Notebookcheck measured 409 nits.
