Author Johannes Eva (viola)I am a classical musician (violist) with 20 years of professional experience in orchestra and chamber music. For many years, I have been advising colleagues, students, and fellow musicians in the choice of their tablet.

Along with the many positives of using tablets, I’ve also seen the negatives: tablets crashing just before going on stage, batteries that don’t hold up during long rehearsal days, and missing page turner pedals in concert.

Overview

The Minisforum V3 is a 14-inch Windows 11 tablet with an AMD Ryzen 7 8840U laptop processor and a detachable backlit keyboard. A third USB-C port accepts a video signal, so it also works as a portable monitor. Notebookcheck gave it 86 % and called it a great all-rounder; TechRadar praised its speed and screen. XDA Developers (6.5/10) prefers the Surface Pro 11 because of the V3’s battery life and stand.

The 16:10 screen, a wide format made for videos, is about 9 % larger than that of the 13-inch iPad Pro. It is sharp (2560 × 1600, 216 ppi) and smooth (165 Hz). Notebookcheck measured 512 nits, almost full DCI-P3 colors and no PWM flicker; thanks to an anti-reflective coating, XDA could read it easily in daylight.

The Ryzen 7 with Radeon 780M graphics is fast for office work, photo and video editing and light games, but XDA found it much slower on battery. It has 16 or 32 GB of soldered RAM, a 1 TB SSD and Windows 11 Pro.

The keyboard with touchpad is included, but there is no built-in kickstand: the tablet stands in a magnetic back cover with a stiff hinge that must not block the fan vents (Notebookcheck, XDA, China-Gadgets). The pen was free only at launch, later €39. Notebookcheck measured 5 hours 52 minutes of Wi-Fi web browsing, XDA at most 5 hours 17 minutes. The tablet weighs 930 g, about 1.6 kg with keyboard and cover, and gets hot under load (TechRadar, Notebookcheck). It has two USB4 ports, a UHS-II SD card reader, a headphone jack, four speakers and Wi-Fi 6E, but no USB-A.

It went on sale worldwide in April 2024 at $1,199 and €1,359 (PCWorld, Notebookcheck). In October 2026, Minisforum only listed refurbished units (€799, $809), sold out. The cheaper V3 SE (November 2024) has an older Ryzen 7 7735U and a dimmer 1920 × 1200 screen.

Performance

Minisforum V3 3-in-1: Performance

The Minisforum V3 3-in-1 is powered by the relatively old AMD Ryzen 7 8840U processor, released in 2023 and built on a 4 nm process. It is one of the fastest chips in any tablet: it handles everything, including heavy video editing, 3D work and the most demanding games. Compared with other large tablets:

  • The Apple M5 in the Apple iPad Pro 13″ (M5) is about 40 % faster.
  • The Apple M4 (8-core CPU) in the Apple iPad Air 13″ (M4) is about 10 % faster.
  • The Minisforum V3 3-in-1 is about 30 % faster than the Samsung Galaxy Tab S11 Ultra and its MediaTek Dimensity 9400+.

Brightness

Minisforum V3 3-in-1: Maximum brightness

The screen of the Minisforum V3 3-in-1 reaches 500 nits according to Minisforum, which is enough indoors, but not for outdoor use in the summer (600 nits is the minimum). Notebookcheck measured 512 nits.
