Overview

The Huawei MatePad Pro Max is a 13.2-inch OLED tablet for notes, drawing and office work, launched worldwide in May 2026 to replace the MatePad Pro 13.2. At 4.7 mm and 499 g (509 g for the PaperMatte Edition) it is the thinnest 13-inch tablet. Reviewers praise its screen, build and speakers but regret the missing Google services: Notebookcheck rated it 88%, Mobilissimo 9.1/10, Xataka 8.8/10 and android.com.pl 8.4/10.

The screen is about the size of the 13-inch iPad Pro’s. Its 3:2 format is taller than the usual 16:10, which suits documents and sheet music. At 3000 × 2000 pixels (273 ppi) and 144 Hz it is sharp and smooth. Notebookcheck measured 908 nits (987 briefly) and a low minimum of 2.7 nits. The optional PaperMatte finish removes most reflections and looks clearer than Huawei’s earlier matte screens, according to ComputerBase.

The Kirin T93 Pro chip feels smooth in daily use and stays cool, but its graphics are far behind rival high-end tablets. It has 12 GB of RAM and 256 or 512 GB of storage, without microSD. Outside China, HarmonyOS 4.3 runs Android apps but has no Google services; reviewers added them with GBox or with microG and the Aurora Store. Netflix plays in HD (Widevine L1). Notebookcheck reports six years of security patches, until May 2032.

The Glide Keyboard (439 g) has a touchpad and charges the M-Pencil Pro, but offers only two angles and no backlight. The six speakers sound excellent. ComputerBase measured 15 hours of YouTube at 200 nits, but Notebookcheck found the runtimes comparatively short. A full charge at 66 W takes 50 to 70 minutes. The USB-C port (USB 3.1) can mirror the screen on a monitor; Wi-Fi 7 lacks the 6 GHz band.

In Germany it costs €1,099, or €1,299 with the keyboard (12 GB / 512 GB); in China it starts at ¥5,999. It is not sold in North America.

Pros

  • Very thin and light (4.7 mm, 499 g)
  • Sharp 13.2-inch 3:2 OLED, 144 Hz (908 nits measured)
  • Optional matte PaperMatte screen with very few reflections
  • Excellent sound from six speakers
  • Good keyboard with touchpad and precise pen
  • Long video runtime (15 h of YouTube at 200 nits) and 66 W charging

Cons

  • No Google services; Google apps only through workarounds
  • Graphics performance well behind rival high-end tablets
  • High price (€1,299 with keyboard in Germany)
  • Keyboard with only two angles and no backlight
  • No cellular option outside China, no microSD slot
  • Not sold in North America

Performance

Huawei MatePad Pro Max: Performance

The Huawei MatePad Pro Max is powered by the Huawei Kirin T93 Pro processor, released in 2026. It is a mid-range chip, fast enough for multitasking, drawing apps and most games; only the most demanding games and video editing will push it to its limits. Compared with other large tablets:

  • The Apple M5 in the Apple iPad Pro 13″ (M5) is about 3 times faster.
  • The Intel Core i7-1165G7 in the Huion Kamvas Studio 16 is about 20 % faster.
  • The Huawei MatePad Pro Max is about 2.5 times faster than the Meswao MES-B3 (Pro) and its MediaTek Helio G99.

Brightness

Huawei MatePad Pro Max: Maximum brightness

The screen of the Huawei MatePad Pro Max reaches 908 nits measured by Notebookcheck, which is bright: enough for bright rooms and for outdoor use in the shade, even in the summer.
