I am a classical musician (violist) with 20 years of professional experience in orchestra and chamber music. For many years, I have been advising colleagues, students, and fellow musicians in the choice of their tablet.
Along with the many positives of using tablets, I’ve also seen the negatives: tablets crashing just before going on stage, batteries that don’t hold up during long rehearsal days, and missing page turner pedals in concert.
Overview
The Honor MagicPad3 is a large, thin Android tablet with Google services, made for study, work and films. Reviewers praise its battery life, speakers and low weight, but regret its LCD screen and short update support. Notebookcheck rated it 86% (good); TechRadar, Tech Advisor and IT Pro gave it 4 out of 5.
The 13.3-inch screen has about the same area as the 13-inch iPad Pro. Its 3:2 format is taller than the usual 16:10, which suits documents and sheet music. It is sharp (291 ppi), glossy, flicker-free and runs at up to 165 Hz. Notebookcheck measured 753 nits, less than the 1,000 nits Honor advertises. The move from the OLED of the MagicPad 2 to LCD is the main complaint: Notebookcheck measured a low contrast of 612:1, with grayish blacks.
The Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 is a 2023 flagship chip, fast for apps and games but slower than the newest chips. The tablet has 16 GB of RAM and 512 GB of storage (no microSD slot) and runs MagicOS 9 (Android 15) with Google Play. Honor publishes no update policy; TechRadar and Tech Advisor report one Android update and two years of security patches. Widevine L1 (HD on Netflix) is not confirmed.
The Magic-Pencil 3 and the Smart Touch Keyboard with touchpad are sold separately; reviewers like both. Notebookcheck measured 22 hours 34 minutes of Wi-Fi browsing, and a full charge at 66 W takes about 1.5 hours. The tablet weighs 595 g; its eight speakers are among the most balanced Notebookcheck has measured. The USB-C port can drive a monitor; there is no headphone jack, fingerprint reader, GPS or cellular option.
Honor sells it in the UK at £599.99 (16/512 GB), but not in the US or its other European stores; it was out of stock in October 2026. The faster MagicPad3 Pro (Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5) is sold only in China, without Google services.

- Bright screen (700 nits)
- Large battery, superfast 66W charging
- Stylus compatibility (Magic-Pencil 3)
- Supports Google Mobile Services (GMS)
Cons
- No SD-Card reader
- No fingerprint scanner
- Only one OS update and two years of security updates
- Not available in North America
Performance

The Honor MagicPad3 is powered by the relatively old Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor, released in 2023 and built on a 4 nm process. It is a fast chip: demanding games, large drawings and video editing run smoothly. The same chip is used in the Lenovo Yoga Tab Plus. Compared with other large tablets:
- The Apple M5 in the Apple iPad Pro 13″ (M5) is about 2.5 times faster.
- The MediaTek Dimensity 9400+ in the Samsung Galaxy Tab S11 Ultra is about 30 % faster.
- The Honor MagicPad3 is about 3.5 times faster than the Meswao MES-B3 (Pro) and its MediaTek Helio G99.
Brightness

The screen of the Honor MagicPad3 reaches 700 nits according to Honor, which is bright: enough for bright rooms and for outdoor use in the shade, even in the summer. Notebookcheck measured 753 nits.
