I am a classical musician (violist) with 20 years of professional experience in orchestra and chamber music. For many years, I have been advising colleagues, students, and fellow musicians in the choice of their tablet.
Along with the many positives of using tablets, I’ve also seen the negatives: tablets crashing just before going on stage, batteries that don’t hold up during long rehearsal days, and missing page turner pedals in concert.
Overview
The Acer Iconia X16 is a 16-inch Android 16 tablet with an OLED screen and a built-in kickstand, for videos, web browsing and work at a desk. Acer announced it at IFA in September 2026; it should reach the US between October and December 2026, and the price is not announced yet. No independent review exists yet (October 2026). In its launch article, Android Authority called the old chip a “major hardware catch”. Its 2026 sister, the Iconia A16, has the same hardware with an IPS LCD screen.
The 16:10 screen, a wide format made for videos, has an area about 42 % larger than that of the 13-inch iPad Pro. With only 1920 × 1200 pixels (142 ppi), it is not sharp at this size. It runs at 60 Hz and covers 95 % of the DCI-P3 colors. Brightness is modest: 300 nits according to Android Authority and Beebom, 400 nits according to Notebookcheck (Notebookcheck, Beebom). Nobody has measured it yet, and the finish is not known.
The MediaTek Helio G80 is an entry-level chip released in early 2020, even slower than the chip of the previous Iconia X14. It should be enough for videos and browsing, but not for demanding games. There is one configuration: 6 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage (slow eMMC, according to heyupnow), plus a microSD slot (up to 2 TB). Acer has not published an update policy or said whether Netflix plays in HD (Widevine L1).
Acer will sell a keyboard and an active stylus separately. A second USB-C port is for video: Notebookcheck describes a video input, so the tablet can work as a portable monitor, while Android Authority writes of a video output. Acer promises up to 10 hours from the 8,000 mAh battery. The tablet has a metal body, four speakers, Wi-Fi 5 and Bluetooth 5.0; its weight is not announced (heyupnow).
Pros
- Very large 16-inch OLED screen (95 % DCI-P3)
- Built-in kickstand
- Second USB-C port for video input (portable monitor)
- Optional keyboard and active stylus
- microSD slot (up to 2 TB)
Cons
- Old, slow chip (MediaTek Helio G80, 2020)
- Only 6 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage
- Low sharpness for 16 inches (142 ppi)
- Modest brightness (300 to 400 nits announced)
- No update policy published
Performance

The Acer Iconia X16 is powered by the relatively old MediaTek Helio G80 processor, released in 2020 and built on a 12 nm process. It is an entry-level chip: fine for videos, web browsing, reading and taking notes, but apps open slowly and games have to run at low settings. Compared with other large tablets:
- The Apple M5 in the Apple iPad Pro 13″ (M5) is about 11 times faster.
- The MediaTek Helio G100 in the Doogee Tab E3 Max is about 20 % faster.
Brightness

The screen of the Acer Iconia X16 reaches 300 nits according to Acer, which is dim: fine in a dark or dim room, but hard to read near a window and outdoors.
Size compared with the iPad Pro and a sheet of paper
- Acer Iconia X16
13.6 × 8.5 in - iPad Pro 13″
10.4 × 7.8 in - Letter sheet
11.0 × 8.5 in
