I am a classical musician (violist) with 20 years of professional experience in orchestra and chamber music. For many years, I have been advising colleagues, students, and fellow musicians in the choice of their tablet.
Along with the many positives of using tablets, I’ve also seen the negatives: tablets crashing just before going on stage, batteries that don’t hold up during long rehearsal days, and missing page turner pedals in concert.
Overview
The Lenovo Idea Tab Pro Gen 2 replaces the 12.7-inch Idea Tab Pro. Presented in March 2026, this 13-inch Android tablet for videos, games and schoolwork is sold in Europe, the UK and, as the Xiaoxin Pro 13, in China. Most reviewers like it: Notebookcheck rated it 87%, heise called it an excellent mid-range tablet and MyNextTablet gave it 8/10. Their main criticism is short software support.
The 16:10 LCD, a wide format made for videos, is about 6 % smaller than the screen of the 13-inch iPad Pro. It is very sharp (3504 × 2190 pixels, 319 ppi) and runs at up to 144 Hz. Notebookcheck measured 618 nits, accurate colors and no PWM flicker. The reviewed units were glossy; Lenovo also lists a “paper-like” anti-glare version.
The high-end Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 runs apps and games smoothly, although the tablet gets warm under load. It has 8 or 12 GB of RAM, 128 to 512 GB of storage, a microSD slot, Wi-Fi 7 and Google Play. Lenovo promises only two Android upgrades (to Android 18) and security patches until 2030, and heise and Android Planet criticize the many preinstalled apps. No review checked the Widevine level (HD streaming).
The Tab Pen Plus comes in the box only with some versions; MyNextTablet found it average and IT Pro disliked it. The optional keyboard cover with touchpad is good for typing. Battery life is below rivals: Notebookcheck measured 14 h 11 min of Wi-Fi browsing, heise about 7 hours in PCMark. The aluminum body weighs 598 g. Its four JBL speakers are loud and clear, and the USB-C port can send video to a monitor. There is no fingerprint reader, headphone jack or 4G/5G.
Lenovo’s list price was €529 in Germany and £419 in the UK without pen (Expert Reviews); in China it starts at ¥2,199 (IT Home). In September 2026 it sold for under €400 with the pen (Notebookcheck). A US launch was not found.
